Dasgupta The year 2009 has been declared by the United Nations as the International Year of Astronomy in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo Galilei. This resolution was initiated and submitted by Italy, Galilei’s home country. The official name of the global celebration is the International Year of Astronomy, abbreviated IYA 2009. The official slogan of IYA 2009 is “The Universe, Yours to discover.” The website is http://www.astronomy2009.org/ The IYA 2009 is primarily an activity for the citizens of planet Earth to enhance global cooperation for using Astronomy as a means of exploring the universe and also to stimulate world wide interest in astronomy and science in the daily life of people. Special emphasis is to be given to involve the under represented section of the society in understanding the importance of astronomy and science itself. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) will be the coordinating agency for carrying out the various activities in this occasion. Members are requested to submit their proposals by which the Sky Watchers' Association can play its own humble yet significant role in this grand event. All proposals/comments are to be addressed to the General Secretary, Sky Watchers' Association. A new committee has been found to arrenge all the programmes taken by SWA for IYA 09 including the Total Solar Eclipse Camp.The Members of the committee are as follows.
